My husband and I are often asked the question, “how are you going to pay for college for six kids?”  Scary thought but it is a legitimate question.  Having a big family can be expensive.  My husband went to college, graduated in 1996 and just paid off his student loans four years ago.  I do not want that for my kids.  It can be a hardship in the long run.

With having six kids college can be a pretty hefty price tag but we would like for them to be able to go to college if they wish to go. Thankfully whether you have one child or several there are options that will help such as the Florida Prepaid College Plans.  These plans allow you to prepay the future cost of college so that when your child is ready for college, the plans pay the tuition, tuition differential fee and other specified fees covered under the plan.  Amazing right?

The Florida Prepaid College Plans are guaranteed by the State of Florida, so you will never lose your investment. Even if your child decides to attend an out-of-state or private college, the plan will pay the same amount as it would pay at a public college or university in Florida.  So what happens if your child decides they do not want to attend college? Then you can change the beneficiary of the Prepaid Plan or get your money back so it’s a win win situation. Plus if your child does receive a scholarship no worries because you can get a refund for the same amount as the plan would pay a public college or university in Florida.

How are you preparing for your child(ren) to attend college?

  1. How amazing for the state of Florida to offer this! Paying a bit at a time without having huge payments hanging over your head is nice. Makes the future easier too!

  2. As my daughter gets older and older I am realizing I have to get moving on preparing for college. I can’t wait to learn more at the Twitter chat!

  3. I actually had a FL pre-paid fund and it was so great. There was no way I would have afforded school otherwise. We are setting them up for our kids as well.

  4. This sounds like such a great plan! I love that you’re already planning about college for your kids

  5. I wonder if we have something like that here in AZ. I’m going to have to look into that. We haven’t even thought about saving for college for our kid yet, but we really need to start.

  6. It is so important to have a plan, otherwise when your future comes, you will be wondering what to do. Nothing wrong with preparing and college is so expensive.

  7. These pre paid plans are so good. I used one in Missouri for our daughter and it was fantastic. Good for you for letting folks know about it.

  8. My sister lives in FL! I need to share this with her. In my state we have the Hope scholarship. This is a great alternative for your state. Thanks for letting me know, Ill pass it along to my sis.

  9. This is so interesting – and definitely a great way to do something for your child’s future! Don’t think we have anything like that here in the UK! x

  10. This is a great way to go! My husband had to pay for his own school so he attended a community college for two years before transferring to 4 year school. It saved so much money and he got the same education! He also was lucky enough to get an internship that payed for his last two years! Dodged a bullet there for sure!

  11. That is such great that there are prepaid plans. I went to school for 7 years after high school and it was so expensive. My parents helped out as much as they could but it was mostly paid with student loans that are brutal to pay off.

  14. I plan on having a lot of kids. It’s good to know that there are options like this. College is expensive!

  15. All states should do something like this. I have two that will hopefully be going to college, so I need to get saving!
