My family recently went on a wonderful camping trip with some friends. Our five children had never been camping before so it was super exciting for our while family. We all decided to camp not too far from home but a bit north in Ormond Beach, Florida at Tomoka State Park.

Once where Native Americans once dwelled, living off fish-filled lagoons. Today, these waters are popular for canoeing, boating, and fishing. This park protects a variety of wildlife habitats and endangered species, such as the West Indian manatee. Not to mention it is a bird-watcher’s paradise, with over 160 species sighted, especially during the spring and fall migrations.

Our camp site was super spacious. It was able to accommodate our big family nicely with our large 7 person tent, 2 person tent and our pop up canopy tent.  Plus it was housed with electricity and water which was a must for me.  For cooking there is a grill over a fire pit.  Great for grilling and s’mores!

Tamoka State Park has 88 camp sites which accommodates tenting or RVing.

The campgrounds has a one way in and one way out which was perfect for us because we had a total of 25 children in our group. So they would play on this open dirt road from morning to night. Either riding their bikes, playing football, catching bugs or tag. No worries of cars coming from two different directions!

We took a nice break a from playing and hiked. The scenery was stunning! The park consists of scenic marshes and live oak hammocks that abound with wildlife. The kids loved the tree’s, they were huge and great for climbing!

Tamoka Nature

Ending our hike with a nice walk along the Tomoka River.  As I walked this area I wondered what the  Native Americans were like many years ago. Fishing or boating in this same river I walked along.

The best part was this park is super clean including the bathroom areas.  This city girl was happy about that because before getting there I just kept thinking about dirt and grime!  Where are you camping next? Tomoka State Park has it all!
