A Career Path To Consider

I remember when I was in the work force a company that I worked for hired an outside consultant.   A consultant is one who is engaged in the business of giving expert advice to people working in a specific field.  He consultant evaluated the company I was working for.  His tasks were sitting with each employee to see what their job description and responsibilities were.  It was good for the company because they were able to get outside help and they were able to see things from another point of view. Big changes were made for the company which made them more successful.   When it was my turn to sit down with the consultant I admit I was nervous but it was a good experience for me.  I was recently reading on-line that there are different types of consulting careers which I find rather interesting.  I never realized how many careers are in the consulting field!

5 Main Types of Management Consulting Careers:

1. Strategy Consulting Careers

The first business strategy or “strategic management” is the uppermost level of decision making that drives a business.

2. Operations Consulting Careers

The operational processes of a business are what drives the business itself. Covering things like: process management and outsourcing.

3. Financial Advisory Consulting

Businesses need to make objective and informed financial decisions. Decisions must take into account a huge number of complex variables.

4. Human Resources Consulting

To manage employees effectively is crucial to a business’s long-term success. And, there’s a lot to take into account. Businesses need clear and effective processes in place to manage things.

5. Risk & Compliance Consulting

All organizations need to adhere to laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices. Enforcing compliance using company policies helps to detect and prevent any violation of governance, such as fraud, abuse, or discrimination. This can protect the organization from fines and lawsuits.

There are also  5 main corporate consulting careers such as:

1. IT Consulting Careers

Technology has changed so much over the years and has been developing at a rapid rate so businesses need to keep up if they want to achieve their goals and maintain a competitive edge.

 2. Business Consulting Careers

The consultant that came to my workplace was more of a business consultant.  They analyze a business’s practices and then recommend improvements.

3. Environmental Consulting Careers

These environmental laws and regulations apply to a huge number of industries — from construction to waste management to energy development and city planning.

4. Software Consulting Careers

Computer software is a powerful business tool. A few types of large software suites are customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning.

5. Sales Consulting

The role of a sales consultant is typically focused on training salespeople, but they can also be hired to advise on workflows.

5 Main Types Of Independent Consulting Careers:

1. Marketing Consulting Careers

Businesses must build out and execute complex marketing channels like: pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, content marketing, SEO,  print, TV, and radio advertising.

2. Financial Consulting Careers

Consultants manage their day-to-day expenses, taxes, insurance, and investments.

3. Image Consulting Careers

A person’s appearance strongly influences other people’s perception of their intelligence, financial success, trustworthiness, and authority. These perceptions can heavily affect the chances of landing a date, client, job, or promotion. So, it’s no surprise that many people hire image consultants to improve the way others perceive them.

4. Social Media Consulting Careers

Social media consultants work with businesses to define their target social audience and the best strategies to reach them. For small to mid-size companies, the consultant might actively manage pages and campaigns directly.

5. Career Coaching & Consulting

Some people aren’t sure which career path is best for them. Others have an idea of where they want to be but don’t know how to get there. And others are stuck at a certain point in their career and are trying to overcome a specific obstacle.
