Chocolate Toffee Crunch Treats

I will never forget six years ago after our 4th child was born a sweet elderly woman from my church brought my family a nice warm meal.  It was nice having not to have to cook after having a c-section!  The dish included a tasty treat that I will never forget.  When I asked her how to make it I was blown away at the ingredients! What?? Crackers and chocolate? One would think it would be a bizarre combination but it wasn’t. Salty and sweetness tend to go well together!

Anyways, for years I have wanted to make this tasty treat.  I finally  decided to make it for my family just in time for Valentine’s Day. Giving it my own Valentine’s flare on it!

Ingredients

40 Saltine Crackers

2 Cups of Milk Chocolate Chips

1 Cup of Brown Sugar

2 Sticks of Butter

Aluminum Foil

Cooking Spray

Sprinkles

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Pull out a sheet pan which you can either spray with cooking spray or use stick free aluminum foil like I did on your pan.  Lay out the crackers in rows with no gaps in between.

Add the brown sugar and two sticks of butter in a pan, as these two melt mix together. TIP: Do not walk walk, you do not want it to turn.  Keep stirring until it thickens up and you see bubbles. Once the brown sugar and butter thickened than pour it slowly over your crackers.

Next take the chocolate chips and sprinkle them over the top.  Using a spatula spread the chocolate chips over so that it coats all of the crackers.  At this point you may need to put the pan in the oven for a few minutes so that they continue to melt which makes it easier to smooth out.

Once the chocolate it smoothed out you can either leave it without candy toppings or add them like I did with hearts and red sprinkles for Valentine’s Day.  After I was done I placed the pan in the refrigerator for 30 minutes so that everything would harden up. Finally I pulled up the crackers and cracked it all into pieces.

I have to tell you it is very sweet and addicting! Have you made a sweet treat like this before?
