If you are a steady reader of Mama to 5 Blessings you may be wondering where I have been! Three weeks ago tomorrow my husband and I welcomed our 6th baby into the world and into our family! Levi Mitchell was born at 36 weeks and 3 days (April 26th). His birth weight was 6 pounds 11 oz. with a length of 18.75 inches.
Since we was born early and considered preterm his beginning was a struggle. From the moment he was born he was grunting, struggling to breathe plus he had Transient Tachypnea which is rapid and labored breathing. On top of that his glucose was low which unfortunately required some bottle feedings. He spent the first few days in the NICU. I was able to go down and nurse him but going back to my own hospital room without baby was heartbreaking for me. Thankfully when it was time to leave he was able to leave with us.
Two days after being discharged from the hospital our poor baby was admitted due to high biliruben levels. After spending and evening and early morning hours on Phototherapy his biliruben levels decreased so we were able to go home. After a follow up at the pediatrician’s office his levels went back up again. To prevent him being re-hospitalized I nursed him every 2 hours for a week which required him to go to the bathroom more frequently resulting in his biliruben levels leveling out. We have had quite an experience with our little guy! Through it all God has been amazing! With everything that happened definitely grew me in my walk with Him and stretched my faith more than I could ever imagine. I am in awe of His faithfulness and His mercy.
So where have I been? Enjoying the time with the new baby, soaking it all up. Holding him and cuddling with him as much as I possibly can. My other 5 kids are getting acclimated to the new changes and on top of it we are still homeschooling. Plus since this was my 6th c-section my recovery time is longer and I am not pushing myself but taking it day by day! I am still here, I am not going anywhere. I love to blog but you may see me around a bit less because they are little only once!
Huge congrats! He is a beautiful baby! Enjoy him!
Congratulations! He is gorgeous! Glad to hear he is doing better. You have a beautiful family!
Congratulations! My oldest had really bad jaundice, and we’d even have to stand with him outside, in only his diaper, so that the sun would help his bilirubin levels. We also went back and forth to the doctor/hospital every day for awhile. That is amazing you’ve had 6 c-sections! I’m sure it’s hard to recover from, and I’ll keep you in my prayers. Your new baby is very cute!
Thank you Brenda, I appreciate your prayers. He had to be hospitalized for his jaundice because he was preterm but with one of my other boys born at 37 weeks we used the biliruben blanket at home for a few days.
Congratulations! He is precious and I am thankful he is doing much better!
Congratulations NIcole! Enjoy your precious time with your little one! You are right – this time only comes around one – we are here when you are! 🙂
Congratulations. He is magnificent. We struggled with my boy and bilirubin so I understand that struggle. He had to sleep with a blue light for two weeks. He looks like he is thriving now. God bless!
