Do It Yourself Maternity Tummy Band

I am not a big fan of spending lots of money on maternity clothes. My pants and shorts still fit me but they just do not snap and zipper. I cannot get myself to spend money on buying a bunch of new bottoms.  I have seen Belly Band in my past pregnancies but figured I could easily make my own Using a old t-shirt.
Maternity, Pregnancy

Step 1

Take a t-shirt & cut the whole shirt underneath the armpit opening straight across. After your done cutting you will have a tube.

Step 2

If you can sew great, hem the top & bottom so it gives a nice clean look but make sure you do not sew the tube together!

Step 3

Now you have DIY pregnancy band!  No one will notice that your pants/shorts button or zipper is not closed because it will be covered and the band will help hold your bottoms up. Just step in the tube portion, slide it over your shorts, pants, skirt opening over the button or zipper – no one will even know that your button or zipper is undone but you! Not only does it hold your bottoms up but it gives the shirt you are wearing a layered look because it will appear that you have two shirts on!

See – very easy & only costs a small fraction of the name brand! I happened to have a old t-shirt I used in my drawer that I never wear anymore, so really it didn’t cost me anything!  Your tummy band should last quite sometime until your tummy increases in size, when that happens use a larger t-shirt and make another one that will accommodate you!

  1. This is a great DIY fix for those growing bellies! I never bought maternity clothes during my pregnancies. I just couldn’t justify buying new clothes that would only fit for a short stint!

  2. That’s a good idea 🙂 I will share it with pregnant friends.

  3. Maternity products can be so expensive. I’d rather make something like this instead of spending a ton of money.

  4. Hey, that is a really good idea! You’re quite smart, I must say!

  5. OOOH I know of someone this would be very useful for – and what a clever idea. No one will know and you can have comfort – very neat. Happy New Year!

  10. That’s really smart! It has always seemed silly to me to buy a wardrobe you will only use once, maybe twice.

  11. What a great idea and an excellent alternative to those pregnancy bands they sell in store. They can be so expensive! I wish I would have thought of something like this when I was pregnant with my last!

  12. This is a great way to save some money on maternity clothes. I didn’t gain much weight when I was pregnant so I never had a need to purchase new clothes.

  15. Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

That is such a smart idea! Way to go for coming up with this awesome DIY!

  16. What an awesome idea. I didn’t do bands after both pregnancies and I wish I had. I have two pregnant sisters who could use this info.

  17. How cool is this. Now i could have used this when I was pregnant all my shirt rode up over my belly.

  18. Helene Cohen Bludman says:

We never had pregnancy bands back in the day but they are definitely a good idea.

  19. I remember those days!! I even wore my belly band after the baby was born to help with those in between months.
Mine had lace on the bottom to dress it up a bit.

  20. That is so great! It’s always better to make something yourself rather than buy something.

  21. I’ve never seen this done diy before. It could save a lot of money, as well as the need to buy clothes (unless the mother-to-be wants or needs them).

  22. This looks like a great money-saver! I remember needing one but they were so expensive and hard to find where I live. I’ll look forward to trying this.

  26. This is a great idea to save time and money. I know a few expecting mothers that would find this so useful.

  27. This is really clever. Everyone should have plenty of shirts to make the bands from too!

  28. I wish that I would have thought of this! Seriously great idea. I spent a fortune on those belly bands

  29. I love this idea! Know a few people who would really get a kick out of being able to make them themselves! I gotta share this

  30. That is a great DIY! I could have used one of these with both of my pregnancies.
