Have you ever been complimented several times on something and you cannot understand why because what they are complimenting you on you actually dislike? I have thick curly hair, since I was a child I wish I had long straight thin hair because it seemed easier to care for but that is not what was given to me.  My cousin is a beautician, she has shared some secrets with me on caring for my hair type, especially getting rid of the frizz!

5 Secrets to caring for long curly hair

1) Do not wash your hair everyday. The natural oils in your hair make your hair not only shine but make your hair more manageable.

2) Keep a comb in the shower, after shampooing your hair with Dove shampoo, use a Dove conditioner and comb the conditioner through your hair. Leave for a few minutes and then rinse.

3) When brushing your hair brush the ends first and then the top, making it easy to get the tangles out.

4) A natural way to get frizz out is my using a small amount of coconut oil and work it through your hair.

5) Get all dead ends trimmed when needed.

I am so thankful for her advice and little tips my cousin has given me. They definitely are super helpful. I will pass this valuable information down to my girls. Having a beautician in the family is a treasure!

The following is an uplifting video of a family’s secret to lasting beauty. Their #BeautyStory involves four generations of women with a tradition of passing down one simple beauty secret: the Dove Beauty Bar.  It was really moving when the daughter said, “My mom was the one who started this all off, and she passed it along to me and my sister. Then we passed it along to our daughters. So I guess it’s kind of like a family secret.” What a sweet tradition.

The Dove Beauty Bar keeps this family beautiful for generation to generation. Their beauty story is powerful, but just one of many. What is your #BeautyStory? Honor the women in your life and how the Dove Beauty Bar connects you by sharing HERE.

  1. Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

I have long curly hair, so I am very familiar with it. I actually get keratin treatments to get rid of the curls these days, though 🙂

  2. Rachelle J says:

These are great tips for those with curly hair. I will have to pass them along to those I know that have it!

  3. I so needed this! My hair is long and super wavy which is super curly when wet and I have such a hard time with it. It’s hard to care for and maintain! I will do all of this!

  4. I just can’t go without washing my hair everyday. Plus, I color it also, so it is damaged.

  5. I love the tip about putting a little coconut oil to defrizz! My daughter has kinky, curly hair and it can frizz out when she brushes. This will certainly help!

  6. Coconut oil works wonders. I love that stuff so much!

  7. This is GREAT! I did not realize that I had curly hair until I was 30 (I always wore my hair short). When I started trying to style it, I never knew what to do with it so I wore it in a ponytail. I have found that Argan Oil works really well for curly hair.

  8. I absolutely love DOVE products! Even more, I love their campaign for empowering real women who can honor themselves not in spite of their flaws, but for all the beauty they posses being real! I am going to head into Walgreens for the coupon and beauty event.

  9. Awesome secrets, I didn’t know a few of those! Thanks for teaching me these awesome tips.

  10. I need to try the coconut oil trick. I can’t do the comb trick because my hair gets into knots and will get ripped out. So painful to have curly hair.

  11. I only use their soap and need to keep my eye out for the other products as I have very wavy hair especially in the summer.

  12. These are great tips. I am going to try the coconut oil right now!

  13. Great post! I’m gonna try the comb in the shower idea!

  14. Dove is such a great brand. I love that they have something for curly hair.

  15. Those are great tricks. We do have an issue with frizziness in this family. That’s such a cute picture of you guys by the way.

  16. I absolutely love the Dove brand. I use most all their products because I believe in supporting great companies.

  17. I don’t have curly hair (just an annoying natural “wave”)- but these are great tips! I do have to wash my hair everyday because I workout and sweat A LOT. If I didn’t it would not be good over here lol!

  18. I have always hated my curly hair, but since I had two girls I am starting to change my mind. They both have super curly hair and they have started trying to straighten it out. That’s when I decided to start wearing my hair curly again!

  19. Tonya C says:

My daughter just told me about the coconut oil trick. I never knew! Thanks for the other tips.

  20. Dove is such a nice brand to get behind! Loved the family photos! Great post!

  21. WOw you are all gorgeous. I like Dove products they are really good.

  22. I Love Dove and the way they are connecting with individuals of various groups to embrace their beauty. I agree with not washing your hair everyday .. It strips hair of the natural nutrients

  23. Ann Bacciaglia says:

I love Dove products. The shampoo keeps my hair shiny and clean. I will have to try the beauty bar.

  24. These are all great hair tips. I do most of them regularly!

  25. My hair is more wavy than curly but I, of course, like it straight! We all seem to want different hair so I’m glad Dove is helping women appreciate what they have!

  26. My hair is stick straight but I had a friend with curly hair and I know she goes through so much to keep her hair looking nice (including strugglign to find a well-trained stylist!) Dove is a wonderful company though, one I am happy to support!

  27. Jennifer Williams says:

That comb in the shower trick works so well. Makes getting tangles out easier as well as disperses the conditioner throughout your hair.

  28. I don’t know that my family passed any down. The women were all pretty simplistic with their makeup and beauty routines. My daughter will probably be the one to start the passing down trend (which is a good one). She’s crazy about all things beauty routine.

  29. Those are amazing tips. My hair is long and curly: I don’t wash it everyday or it will be a nightmare. I use Dove products and love them

  30. I would kill for long curly hair! I have straight blah-ish hair that I complain about far too often.

  31. My hair is SO frizzy and wavy. I need to find a better way to take care of it. Thanks for the tips!

  32. I always dreamed of having curly long hair…instead I got straight long hair. The tips work for both though!

  33. Great tips indeed! I have naturally curly hair and I really love it. Dove is such a great brand for a beautiful curly hair. Love the coconut oil tips as well. Will have to share this post with my friends. Thanks for sharing these ideas.

  34. I have long curly coarse hair – I use argan oil that really helps. May times I finger comb my hair in the shower – works great for the summer months.

  35. Debbie Denny says:

I have short hair. I do love Dove products.

  36. I have always wanted long curly hair! Dove has great products.
