When my family goes to Disney World we try to gear our trip around all of our kids.  That means rides and attractions.  But my son will be a tween in less than a few weeks so on our last trip to Disney we did more attractions geared to him.  So what does Disney offer the tween?  A LOT!  Most tweens like fast, loud, exciting and thrilling rides right? My son does!  My son is a lot like me, he loves roller coasters.

Space Mountain has been around since I was a child. I loved this ride so much and I remember riding on it with my parents and now my son and I are creating memories riding it together as we blast off on a rip-roaring rocket through the darkest reaches of outer space!

Then there is the Himalayan mountains where you can travel on a speeding train while avoiding the clutches of the mythic Abominable Snowman / Yeti with the Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.  Although my son loves this roller coaster, the suspense of the Abominable Snowman leaves him hiding in his seat!

Disney Expedition Everest

Spoiler alert — There is no warning when the train comes to a screeching halt, the broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Not knowing what will happen next, brace yourself as your train unpredictably begins to race backward into the darkened mountain, furiously swooping up into a double-looping turn. Inside the windswept passage, a shadowy figure of a growling creature can be seen on a cavern wall. It is the Yetiโ€”the legend is real which totally freaks my tween out but he loves it!

We got to experience for the first time the newest roller coaster- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train which is great for any age. Make your merry way across the rolling stone bridges and through a forest where youโ€™ll find the Dwarfsโ€™ cottage and all the stars from the film: Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey and, of course, Snow White herself.

Can you find my son and I on this video? We are wearing red.

Lastly my tween’s favorite roller coaster is the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (starring Aerosmith) .  We got our backstage pass and headed to the “concert” as we blasted off in a super-stretch limousine through the darkened freeways of Los Angeles.  It was dark, it was loud it was amazing! So amazing that my son and I got on the ride consecutively four times in a row!

Priceless! Love our expressions!

There are so many wonderful roller coasters to chose from, I just stretched the surface!  What are your kids favorite Disney roller coasters?

  1. I knew Disney had a few small coasters, but I didn’t realize that they had a few larger ones, too! That’s pretty cool.

  2. You will never catch me on a roller coaster–NEVER. Call me chicken or whatever other name you can think of–it will not work–If I ever go to Disney I think I will be very happy strolling around my two feet firmly on the ground eating up a storm and taking in the sites.

  3. Hi Nicole – Love that photo with your ‘son is fearless’! Actually, his head is missing!! lol
We are planning on our Anaheim Disneyland in June – but sadly, I don’t believe that have all of these you’ve shared – I always loved Space Mountain – and so enjoyed the video of the Dwarf’s ride plus the song! Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. What a great recap. We were just at Disney in March and are heading there agan in June for a longer stay. I only ride the Dwarf Train and the Thunder Mountain railroad, I’m not big on coasters, but my daughter and hubby ride them all!

    • I love Mine Trains, but they’re about as exciting as I get when it comes to coasters! I’d love to try the Dwarf Train.

  5. Love these pics LOL Poor kid! I HATE roller coasters, so I don’t know what my kids are gonna do…bring I friend with them, I guess!

    • Paula Schuck says:

Letting the kids bring a friend is a great idea. They can go on all the rides with them. am chicken to go on the big coasters.

  6. The expressions you guys have are too much fun! I always head for Space Mountain first thing in the morning when I go there.

  7. I love roller coaster pictures. They are always so fun. I think I cried .. or I know I cried during Expedition Everest.

  8. I remember my first roller coaster was Space Mountain–it scared the heck out of me. I love the coasters that they have at Disney now.

  9. Wow, that one where the track ends would make me absolutely lose it. I would go on them just for those great photos alone!

  10. I’m reliving so many thrilling and happy memories! Disney has the best rides ever, I love them all!

  11. Wow how fun! I can’t wait to head to Disney at some point! Rides are so my thing and I can’t wait to experience it all!

  12. I totally can not show my kids this post. They have been begging me to take them to Disney, I took my youngest last year on a special one on one trip

  13. We’re heading there next month and I can not wait. I’ve been acting like a little kid being extremely thrilled about going back to Disney!

  14. We all love the roller coasters at Disney! My 10 year old has to be coerced but she’s usually glad she goes on!

  15. I don’t know about the kids… My favorite is definitely Space Mountain!

  16. I detest roller coasters. I feel sick and I’m afraid I’ll fall out. I give folks alot of credit that can ride them, I’m too much of a baby,

  17. My stomach doesn’t let me do rides like these, but man does my husband love them! They look like a lot of fun though!

    • Ann Bacciaglia says:

I used to love roller coasters when i was younger. My stomach is the same as yours now. I just can not do it.

  18. This makes me think of the mom and son Disney trips I did with my boy when he was a tween and teen. We need to make it back there together soon. So fun!

  19. If they still have one called “Alien Encounter” that would be great for a Tween. Its scary but thrilling nontheless

  20. I love all those rides! Everest and Rocking Roller Coaster are my favorites

  21. Love the pictures! I had no idea Disney had so many different roller coasters!

  22. Rollercoaster photos are the best. We have never been to Disney but we have been to lot’s of places that have rollercoasters.

  23. We have such amazing memories of spending time in Disney as family! Space Mountain is definitely my personal all time favorite Disney coaster, followed by Splash Mountain.

  24. I always love Mine Train rides. They’re so much fun. I would love to ride the one at Disney.

  25. Robin {Masshole Mommy} says:

I love that look on your face screaming at the end. Great pictures!

  26. Oh what fun. I haven’t been in ages but need to go back. I think my kids are finally old enough to really enjoy everything ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for sharing.

  27. My first trip to the Disney area was when I was 2 years old. I went every year until I was a pre-teen. The coasters went from frightening to lose your lunch. Love the re-cap.

  28. Love, love, love roller coasters! I hope my kids like them too when they get older. Otherwise, I’ll be going on them alone haha.

  29. Jennifer Williams says:

We went there on a field trip and I had the fun of hanging with a bunch of 5th grade boys. They thought I was the coolest parent because I was on every ride with them. I miss those rides – that Yeti one was my favorite!

  30. I’m a big chicken when it comes to thrill rides, but my husband loves them! I’m so grateful he does because he can take our girls when they want to go! lol

  31. I grew up and still love today with roller coaster fanatics! I’ve been on nearly everything! These look so fun and bring back such memories.

  32. I grew up in Florida so Disney holds such fond memories for me. It’s nice to see families enjoying the thrill of roller coasters!!

  33. Those all look like so much fun! My son is not one for the big rides, so we tend to stick to the smaller ones.

    • Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

Yeah, I like the smaller ones too! The big ones really turn my stomach anymore! I just can’t hack them like I used too!

  34. I’ve always been a huge fan of roller coasters every since I was a little girl. This looks like it has all the thrill rides for roller coaster enthusiasts.

  35. Okay I have to sit on the sidelines for this one as a migraine sufferer but it looks like fun!

  36. I love roller coasters so much! It is so funny how the kids tend to say they’re not afraid but the pictures always prove the opposite!

  37. shirley martinez says:

I can’t wait to finally take my daughter to Disney work! She’s only 2 now so I’m gonna wait a few more years.

  38. I can’t do roller coasters but enjoy watching others!

  39. I have similar photos from my Disney experiences! I LOVE Rockin Roller Coaster. I haven’t been on Expedition Everest in a long time.

  40. These are some of my daughters most favorite rides!

  41. Well you look like you were having a blast!! I did see your little on in a red t-shirt on the ride. ๐Ÿ™‚ Rock and Roll Rollercoaster starts SO fast, I love that too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  42. Those are amazing roller coasters. My teen will be thrilled to try them all

  43. Space Mountain is my all-time favorite, and I think it’s because it’s so dark, you can’t see any of the track. Everything is a surprise even if you’ve been on it before. I’ll have to check these other ones out.

  44. #WDWBigFun was a blast! Went by much too quickly! It was so nice to meet you and your son!
Hope to see you again soon at another event!

  57. I am not a big roller coaster fan, but I loved Everest! It was my favorite by far, although I wimped out on the Rockin’ Rollercoaster and didn’t ride.
