As my children are getting older I shared with them the importance of caring for our planet.  In doing so they are very much involved in recycling  – separating and sorting our items weekly.  Aside from helping hands on I like to use educational resources to ensure the importance and comprehension plus make it fun for them too! One of resources is The Jimmy Gone Green Starter Kit .

Jimmy’s Gone Green Starter Kit which includes:

~ The award-winning picture book “Jimmy’s Gone Green How to Take Care of the Earth and Keep the Environment Clean (A Ten-Step Guide for Kids)

~ 1 Jimmy’s Green Challenge Poster

~ 4 Jimmy’s Green Challenge Wristbands

~ 1 Jimmy’s Gone Green refrigerator magnet

Jimmy’s Gone Green is a book about the earth’s resources (air, water, energy, tree’s, etc. ) and what we can do to care for our planet with things such as recycle, not to pollute and  conserve energy. With 10 simple steps on how we can keep our planet:

Turning off the water while brushing our teeth, line drying our clothing, turn off lights when not using them, use natural light and take shorter showers. I do not want to give all the resourceful tips away because I don’t want you to ruin it for you.  I like that it’s not just a book, it’s a book with did you know  points for example: If you turn off the water when you brush your teeth, you’ll save 8 gallons of water each day. I find these tid bits to be valuable information, many I did not know of myself!

Plus aside from the book the kit has other great ways to remind children the importance of caring for our planet.  The kit contains wristbands for children to wear to remind them of what they can do to help at home or on the go, a magnet for the refrigerator and a poster to hang up anywhere. These are great reminders for not just children but for adults as well.

The Jimmy’s Gone Green Challenge Starter Kit is available on Amazon for $19.99.

How about you, how do have you and your family taken the Jimmy’s Gone Green Challenge? If so how?

  1. That sounds like a wonderful book for the kids. I, too, try to teach my kids about recycling and it’t nice to have something like this to help!

  2. Great kit! I love the wristband idea. That is really smart. I could use some of those to remind me!

  3. I haven’t heard of this yet, but it sounds really cool! My niece would probably love this! Thanks and I think a Green Challenge would be awesome to do!

  4. This is a great starter for kids, it’s amazing what will stem from those first steps!! 🙂

  5. We haven’t, but we’d like to! I bet my son would be really interested in this. He loves reading, and he loves anything to do with nature and going green!

  6. What a great book to teach them how their actions impact the Earth and the environment. We’ve been teaching our kids about recycling and also composting!

  7. Caring for our planet is definitely something we all need to do and getting kids involved is a fantastic idea! Not only does it instill in them respect for our planet early, but they’ll feel like they’re contributing to something a lot bigger then themselves when they help 🙂

  8. This is a fun kit! My daughter has learned a lot of the Earth this year and she is very conscious of recycling and similar things. She would love this!

  9. I talk to my children all the time about the importance of recycling, etc. They have grown up with being green.

  17. I love the reminder bracelet (even for myself) we collectively try to make “green choices”.

  18. Love this idea! My kids get the concept of recycling but it doesn’t really hit home for them. Now give them a challenge and they would be all in!

  19. I hope this helps inspire a lot of kids ( and their parents) to make eco-friendly choices! Thanks for sharing.

  20. That is an awesome book for recycling and green ideas.

  21. Very cool! It’s important to teach the next generation about how to take good care of mother Earth!

  29. I live green in so many ways and love this Jimmy’s Gone Green product. My teen son needs this wristband to remind him to turn off the lights!!! Great idea.

  30. I am so proud of your son to take an initiative. I try to tell my kids about the lights but I often say “what do you think we own the electric company?”

  31. This looks like a great book!

  32. We have not done the challenge yet but interested in the book. My boys are horrible about turning off the water and lights. I keep telling myself they are still young and need reminders but I swear it goes in one ear and out the other. Perhaps a book and challenge will motivate them more than I can.
