STORE BOUGHT ORANGE JUICE VS DIY (RECIPE)

My family enjoys a nice glass of orange juice but if you read the label of the store bought orange juice you have to ask yourself what are all these extra ingredients?

Unlike orange juice squeezed fresh at home and free of chemical enhancement, store-bought juice often contains preservatives and additives to enhance color and flavor as well as to increase the juice’s shelf life. Many, too, are fortified with synthetic vitamins and minerals to replace the natural ones lost in processing.

So what is the solution if you want a nice refreshing glass of orange juice? Make it yourself! So super easy, less expensive and better for you!

Here is how I make it for my family:

6 oranges (this is for 6 of us)
4 cups of water
ice

This recipe makes 8 cups

I peeled 6 oranges leaving some of the pith on it. The white part of the rind, including the pith, has nearly the same amount of vitamin-C as the flesh and contains sources of pectin.

Then I added 4 cups of water and filled my Vitamix with ice to the top and blended it until fully blended. We like ours plupy but if you do not like it pulpy then blend until plup is gone.

You can clearly see the difference in freshly made orange juice verses store bought – as mentioned above they add color enhancers to orange juice.

Since it’s natural and fresh with no preservatives you need to drink it quickly.
