SCIENCE EXPERIMENT: WHICH FREEZES SALT WATER OR REGULAR WATER?

We just wrapped up our lesson 2 from Apologia Swim Creatures (baleen + toothed whales).  We did an experiment on which freezes faster salt water or regular water. Sometimes beluga whales can be found below 32 degrees but they are not frozen.
Materials needed:
2 cups
salt
freezer
In 1 cup add 2 tablespoons of salt w/ water & stir
The other cup add just water
put both in the freezer
The 1st hour
Left salt water (slushy)  Right the regular water was frozen quite a bit
Checking the water from being in the freezer over night
Left salt water still slushy, Right completely frozen
We were even able to pour the salty water out of the cup because it wasn’t frozen
The salt water took longer to freeze because salt lowers the freezing temperature of water.
This experiment was taken directly from Apologia Swimming Creatures curriculum.
