So…… Why do I homeschool? Before I had children I would have never thought I would have homeschooled, didn’t know anything about it. Then after having our 1st child around the age of 2 and meeting homeschool moms and getting to know about it I realized this was what I wanted.
When I went to school our principle lead prayer over the intercom system each morning! Now you can’t even pray in school! The main and foremost reason I homeschool is to center my children’s daily education to be Christ centered. Most of our cirriculum (which I will be posting & linking up next week) is primarily Biblical based. Before we begin any of our daily homeschooling we do our devotional and pray, that can’t happen in a public school.
My 2nd reason is that kids grow so fast, as the Bible says everything is for a season. If I blink too long my kids will be grown and out of the house. I enjoy being with them day after day, sure they drive me crazy at times but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I want to protect them as much as I can from the “world”. Sure they need to experience things but at such a young age they are so vulerable. I want my husband and I to guard them and teach them what’s important.
A little about our public school system in the county we live in: they teach sex education in Kindergarten! What – that’s crazy! Why do I want a stranger teaching my chidlren that? Personally I believe that is the parent’s responsibility. Then they do not teach geography in elementary school and cursive handwriting at all! Also when I went to school the school’s were SO overcrowded and now several years later they have gotten even more crowded. With 1 teacher ratio to SEVERAL students, I ask myself do I want my children in that atmosphere?
And finally when I went to school fist fights were the most violent thing I saw and that was once in awhile. Now unfortunately there are children and teachers having sexual relations and kids bringing weapons to school?
I understand not all moms have the heart or desire to homeschool but I am so thankful for the opportunity to be able to homeschool my children. And I know many mom’s would love to stay home and homeschool their children and cannot. My prayer is for more Christian teachers to be placed in the public schools. Regardless we need to be bold and as our children’s advocates whether they are in a private, public or homeschool setting.
My son’s 1st day of offical Kindergarten 7/27/10!

I homeschool for basically the same reasons. I also homeschool so they can work on their talents. I have had 4 kids graduate home school and they got to earn some degrees at home with a mail curriculm. One got a sewing degree another got a newsletter degree. One got to work on welding and another plants. One of them is in college and #2 in her class and the other three have jobs they like. —- Five me kids to go…
we choose to homeschool for a lot of the same reasons. it’s insane what ‘strangers’ teach our kids NOT in school…i can’t imagine IN school!
I pretty much could have written this post! Well a few differences like we haven’t officially started since my son is only 3, and I had some friends that were homeschooled but that fed into why I thought I wouldn’t do it. Now I know why I want to and feel led to do it.
I love this post. Homeschooling has been a journey for me, it’s taking me time to get to where I feel comfortable with moving forward in this direction. So it’s nice to read other mom’s passionate feelings towards something that I think is so important. I homeschool for pretty much all of the same reasons you do!
I suppose at some point I’ll have to officially say we’ve hit the first day of school.
Great reasons to homeschool. I agree with all of them, and thought about including some of them as mine.
I edited an old post of why I’m homeschooling to link up to you, if that’s okay. Just didn’t want to rewrite it all again.
Great post! It’s always nice to read why others homeschool. I have been homeschooling for 5 years and the main reason I homeschool my 4 children is religious. My husband and I are hoping and praying that by establishing a strong faith background at home, their souls (and ours) will reach Heaven when God calls them Home. This foundation will also give them the tools and encouragement they need to face the challenges and pressures of our secular world. May you have a holy and happy homeschool year!

PS: I grabbed your cool homeschool button above and put it on my left sidebar in my blog scroll!
Agreeing wholeheartedly with your post. I also linked to an old post which I edited. Saved some time on writing a new post and seeing as my reasons haven’t changed in the last few months, it seemed appropriate. Hope that is okay with you. I figured, seeing as there are links there I never had time to check out, now is the time and it gives others a chance to see them as well.
