Every Thursday A Mommy’s Adventures does a really fun blog carnival every Thursday – read your child a story then accompany it with art!
Both my boys LOVE There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly
So as I read the book to them after the millionth time (OK I am exatrating!) my oldest son made some of the things the old woman swallowed in the book! He used Play-Doh some he did free hand, some he used some of our Play-Doh molds.

She swallowed a fly then she swallowed the spider to catch the fly
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird, she swallowed the cow to catch the dog, she swallowed the horse to catch the cow…………
If you have never read this book to your child – get it from the library. Like I said when I pull this book off our book shelf my boys get so excited!

  1. It’s been ages since we’ve read the original story – I’m not sure my youngest have ever heard it. Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Lovely way to use playdough! Red Ted has “Just discovered” the joy playdough brings. We will have to give it a go (or at least the song!!)

    Thank you

  3. These books are my oldest son’s ABSOLUTE favorites. I’ve always tried to think of an art project to go with him. Do you guys have the other ones – swallowed a trout, a pie, a chick, some snow, bells, the ocean…I can’t remember if that’s all.

  4. The playdough activity looks like so much fun.

  5. I love this book.. I need to add it to our collection. We have gotten it a few times from the library but its always a big hit! I love the idea of using play dough to show what happened.
