The Tale of Three Trees
~ Angela Elwell Hunt (Author)
Three young trees each make a wish. When they are felled, it seems as if all their dreams are over. But each is destined to play an important part in the life of Jesus, and in this their dreams are more than fulfilled. This moving tale, which provides an insight into the life of Jesus, is now available in an appealing mini sized format which brings new life to a top-selling classic retelling of a traditional tale.
We made stained glass cross window catchers out of melted crayons & wax paper, here is a tutorial:
1st use a pencil sharpener to get your crayon shavings (my 2 boys LOVED to do this)
Pour shavings on the wax paper
IRON THE CRAYON SHAVINGS BETWEEN 2 PIECES OF WAX PAPER (make sure you put a towel underneath the wax paper)
The melted crayons after ironed
(make sure you wipe down your iron with a wet cloth to get off any wax residue.)
I drew a cross on the paper & had my preschooler cut it out.
hole punch & hang up on a suction cup & hung it on our glass sliding door
Make sure you tape all the edges because when I got home there was crayon was that apparently got hot from the son & dripped down my glass door & onto my carpet in the livingroom.

It’s a nice craft. I got this book in the library after seeing glowing reviews but realized fairly quickly that it would be incomprehensible to my secular daughter. I liked it though – it’s really a beautiful read.
Oh no! Thanks for the tip! It must be nice and warm where you are. 🙂
Good warning about the melted crayon. I had wondered about how you kept the edges sealed after you cut the cross shapes.
oh no! When I was working at a teacher supply store we ran one of those through our laminator, and that made a big huge mess. There was crayon melts for feet afterwards.
This is so awesome Nicole! Love how they turned out. You always have the greatest ideas. Hope you and your family have a wonderfully blessed easter.
What a fun way to make stained glass pictures. You could also place a light cloth over the picture before you iron to avoid wax residue on the iron.
The crosses turned out great! I tried this for Valentine’s Day with pink shavings and cut them into heart shapes after ironing them and wasn’t happy with the way they turned out. I think I cut them too small, but great call on taping the edges!!
We need to start linking up to StArt. I have a virtual Easter basket for you on my blog. It is a really neat fundraiser. Check it out. Have an Awesome Easter.
Thank you for sharing this story with us.
What beautiful crosses! I spilled some wax in college and learned a trick. If you heat up an iron on the lowest setting.. then put a paper towel down on the wax and then iron it the paper towel will absorb it. Im not sure if it will work on carpet.. I did it on a curtain and it worked pretty good. You might have already know that.. just thought I would share 🙂
So glad you tested the crosses out for us all…your sacrifice is greatly appreciated! ;0)
