My preschooler & I did a mini theme unit this week on Chicka Chicka 123. We focused most of our homeschooling on math this week because math just hasn’t been his thing. I recommend this book to anyone who is teaching children numbers. This book encouraged my son to want to count & write his numbers past 20! The colorful pictures and cute story about numbers is a great learning tool.
Here is what we did………..
For the 1st time my son counted to 100 (with some help) – he wanted to do this because he saw the numbers 1-100 in the back of the book!
Roll a Chicka Chicka tree, I cut out of felt the tree pieces, apples and numbers. My son loves these games!
For the 1st time JJ wrote his numbers past 20, he did up to 60 with very little assistance.
Then with constuction paper I cut out a tree and JJ glued it together. For the apples he used a red bingo dobber and with number stamps he put the numbers on the tree.
We also did the mini marker page, in the circles I gave him a smiley face stamp & he stamped in all the circles.
I love your unit – I am always impressed with how well your son can write. I can only hope that my daughter has more interest in any writing activities a year from now 🙂
Great theme! I love it! You have a ton of ideas!

What a great week. I love all the math activities that you did.
Looks like a fun week! I love the felt tree idea. I loved Chicka Chicka Boom Boom when my kids were younger, but haven’t seen the number version. We read and played with the book so much that my teenagers still chant the song when they see the book!:)
Great Ideas! Can’t wait to try some of them out!
Oh that rolla chicka game is brilliant! I really like your blog! I snagged your button and put it in my sidebar.
You need to frame his apple verse. I think a little kid’s handwriting is one of the most precious things there is!
Looks like some creative math ideas!
What a great week! Lots of wonderful ideas.
