Farm animals / farming unit study

We will be going to a tour of a farm with our homeschool group 1/8/10. So I decided to do a farm lesson with my boys prior to the tour. After our farm tour we will be checking off what we saw at the farm using this worksheet: http://www.abcteach.com/free/c/checklist_farm.pdf

We started our unit study off with my son’s new game he got for Christmas. Uno Moo! We had fun as a family playing. This game was given to my toddler but he is too young for it so I will modify the game for him, for now he just helps.

It’s amazing how much animal & farm resources we have in our home! I have gathered them together, if you are going to do a similiar study search your house – you will probably be amazed what you find you can use!

Here are some of the books we have at home we will be using for this unit study.

COWS
I decided to make some of my own worksheets tailoring specifically to my preschooler. I typed in cow cip art in the search engine, copies & pasted the cow clip art into Word (I enlarged the clip at) – I chose one that my son could color. Then I typed out the following questions:
What is a boy cow called?

What is a girl cow called?
What is a baby cow called?
What do cows eat?
What do cows give us?
Then my son filled in the answers (with my help on the spelling portion) Then after he wrote what the cow gives us I had him look in this past Sunday’s sale ad & he cut out a picture of milk, meat & shoes (leather).
Then I made another worksheet, using cow w/ calf clip at, copying it into Word. I wrote cows in the Bible. Then I had my preschooler write the Bible verse in Leviticus 22:7 (right in above pic)
For our craft we used our book: Sing! Play! Create! They have a whole farm animals section. The craft we did was the cow puppet. I took a paper bag & printed off the cow face, tongue & tail from: http://www.daniellesplace.com/images/cowpuppethead.gif
Other activities we did:
Animals flash cards, I had them take out all the farm animals.
Read Fuzzy Farm Friends (Melissa & Doug wooden book) & then they matched the farm animals to the felt board.
