We collect! I made the boys a nature box. I bought a plastic shoe box container & we have collected: bird feathers, rocks, snail shells, leaves, acorns, cotton from a cotton plant (from our trip to Louisiana from the cotton fields), etc. I laminated the leaves. This is a ongoing project. This is a great way for a nature study! Pull out an item, read books about it & learn about it!
We released ladybugs at home in our strawberry plant. Everyday we went outside and counted how many were left in our strawberry plant and then my preschooler documented how many we still had left. We did several crafts along with it. With all the pictures and crafts we are making our own ladybug book.

Both pages are my preschoolers journaled pages. The 1st day we released the ladybugs, the 2nd day we counted how many ladybugs were left in our strawberry plant, how many didn’t have dots, this countinued until the last day until all of the ladybugs had flewn away. All this he wrote down on these pages.
We also learned about the lifecycle and read books.

Our library had a local animal animal sanctuary visit. It was a great science lesson for my preschooler. He learned about alligators, opossums, hawks, owls, snakes & skunks.
Did you know opossum are only pregnant for 10 weeks, when the babies are born are as small as your pinkie finger nail & they nurse 24/7 for 4 months? My son talked about it all the way home from the library how they are like kangaroos because their babies stay in a pouch and how they play dead when they are scared.
