It’s a new year, time to evaluate what is working and what is not working in our homeschooling. This is our last week of winter break before we start meeting back up with our homeschool co-op group so I am taking the time to make some adjustments here and there.
Homeschooling a big family can have it’s challenges. I try to stay as organized as much as possible or less it will be a hot mess. Not only do I need to stay organized but my kids need to be organized as well. Daily work has to be organized by each child in a stationary location or else things get lost, trust me I know!
The last few years I used calendar planners for each child. A week in advance I would write down their work in their planner so that they would know what they needed to get done. Once they completed each assignment they crossed it out. I liked this set up because I was able to keep record of their assignments, it was my log.
Now that our calendar planners ended December 31st I decided to try something new. I loved the calendar planners but it was too much because not only did each child have their own planner but they had a folder with their daily work in it as well. Things got separated and caused confusion – no thanks.
I searched on-line and decided to come up with our own system. I made our own daily calendars. One’s I would print myself and if I needed to I could always make alterations to. Then once they are printed I can fill in their weekly assignments for them to cross off when they have completed it. Plus I added a notes portion for extra curricular activities like Awanas, basketball, youth group, etc.

The best part was that I could but them in a 3 ring binder with pockets for their daily work and not have a separate place their their loose worksheets, etc. Now each child has one place to go to for their daily assignments other than their homeschool shelf for their workbooks, books, etc. No more confusion! We keep them on our homeschool table in a file folder stand organizer so that they are readily available keeping kids on task!

That is such a great idea. I don’t homeschool, but I have always imagined that it took a TON of organization. Great!
I love your idea of using the calendar planner, I think that’s why I would do also. In fact, that’s how I organize my everyday life with to-do lists and such – I can’t get the hang of doing planning digitally!
