MOM’S QUICK TIP OF THE WEEK — KITCHEN TIMER USES

Welcome to Mom’s Quick Tips Thursdays! Each week I will either post or have a guest post have a Mom’s Quick Tips to share with you! As a mom to 4 and another on the way life is busy. I am always looking for ways to make life easier whether it be doing something quicker, easier or thrifty!

This week’s tip I just started doing with my kids and not only do I love it but so do my kids!

I purchased a soccer ball kitchen timer on clearance at Michael’s for only 50 cents!

What am I using it for?

First I am using it for homeschooling. My 5 year old does not like handwriting so I set it for 10-15 minutes and have him work on his handwriting during that duration, he knows once the timer goes off he can stop. He has stopped complaining using this method!

Second my 2 boys prefer taking showers but they get in and think water is free. They could spend all day in there playing around, soaping up the tiles on the wall and the shower doors, etc. So set the timer for 7-10 minutes and when it goes off they know it’s time to get out.

Third how about playing with toys. With 4 kids let’s face it sometimes they all want to play with the same toy. For instance on our individual trampoline outside, I set the timer for 10 minutes and when it goes off it’s time for the next child to have a turn.

Fourth even though we homeschool sometimes like today we have a field trip at 9:00 AM which means we have to hustle! So I can set the timer and tell them when it goes off we need to be ready to go. Maybe set it a bit early giving them time to get their shoes on.

Fifth time out, for discipline we use time out. You do the punishment you do the time. So for my 7 year old he sits on the bottom stairs for 7 minutes, my 5 year old 5 minutes and so on with the rest of my children. For each year they are they get a minute. So we set the timer and once the timer goes off we go over to them and discuss why they are in time out and then they can get out of time out.

I am still using this device to bring solutions in our home, making life easier for all of us. Do you use a kitchen timer other than for cooking and if so what do you use it for? Please share and leave a comment below.
