With the holidays quickly approaching I am sure most of us will be doing some baking. I admit my husband loves to bake and does all the baking from scratch.
My mother in law taught my husband a very nifty baking tip that is pretty clever when using shortening.
To measure shortening take a clear measuring cup add pre-determined amount of water to the measuring cup and then slowly add the shortening (be sure to submerge the shortening) until your desired measured amount is reached then drain the water .
For example:
For a 1/2 of cup of shortening add one cup of water then place the shortening in the measuring cup and when until the water level reaches 1 1/2 cups drain water and then use your 1/2 of cup of shortening.
Easy as pie!
