This week’s Homeschool Village is about what book has supported and encouraged you in your homeschooling adventure and why you’d recommend it to another homeschooler.
First and foremost I would say the Bible is what supports and encourages me. Without God’s encouragement daily I am useless! He knows exactly what we need and what we need to hear daily and He makes sure that we hear Him especially through His precious Word.
With 3 kids and another due in Decemember and homeschooling reading is a luxury! Our homeschool group holds a monthly book club and a book we read last October is Lies Homeschooling MOMS Believe by Todd Wilson. I had an opportunity to purchase the book and read it on our travels to Louisanna to visit my Grandma, I loved the book so much that I practically read the book to my husband who was driving.
This book is about learning to live the truth. Todd Wilson is a husband to a homeschool mom of 7! As I read this book it’s full of truth accompanied by humor. As homeschool moms we believe such lies. “Everyone else’s kids are better than yours”, “Everyone fixes better meals than you”, “Everyone’s house is cleaner than yours”, Everyone is more disciplined than you and more spiritual”, “Everyone else is mor capable than you”, the list could go on and on. What lies do you believe? What lies is the enemy whispering in your ear? When I 1st starting homeschooling my oldest when he was abut 2 1/2 -3 I was ok with teaching him but when he started learning how to read, etc. I started to think “I am not smart enough to homeschool”. Yeah I may not be a rocket scientist but why am I not capable, I have God on my side! I felt as if the author, Todd Wilson had followed me around and wrote this book! I realized all the “lies” I believed didn’t come from the Lord but it was the enemy bringing me down. I recommend this book to every hmeschool mom to read, it’s such a great encouragement!

Well – not only am I glad you’re participating – but your comments on other blogs just tickle my soul. Thank you for your excitement!! And for the book review – I hadn’t heard of that one before … and how true we get stuck in the rut of comparing ourselves and feeling everyone is doing it better! I looked up to one homeschooler and one day I was shocked when she said, “you’re such a great teacher – we don’t ever do crafts”.
Thanks again – Nicole!

I heard Todd speak at our homeschool conference this year. Hands down my favorite speaker! He spoke on Vision and how to not be a dream killer in the lives of those you love!
This book looks great! Congratulations on your 4th! I hope you have a restful summer as you prepare your heart and home for a new baby!
