This week’s topic at The Homeschool Village – share with us how do you celebrate Back to Homeschooling! Do you have any traditions to kick off the new school year / grade? We’d love to know! Next week we are chatting learning styles and love languages!! Thank you so much for your support in HSV and of each other. Be sure to visit the blogs who have participated and leave an encouraging comment – we are all walking this exciting adventure together!
My son just started his 1st day of Kindergarten on July 27th. So I am pretty new at this. So I may come up with more ideas. We really didn’t celebrate or anything lilke that, with a light homeschool summer and lots of fun activities, I didn’t think of anything else, but good idea for next year!
Here is what I have done or plan on doing at the start and during our school year:
The 1st day of each homeschool year I will take a picture of my child (children) holding up a sign with what grade they are starting and the date.
Each year I will add all his accomplishments to his school momento keeper. I would also like to incorporate Friday Fun Days which a few of my friends in our homeschool group do – they still homeschool but making fun meals (with kids helping), etc. I may do that 1-2 a month. I would like to get settled into Kindergarten and our schedule before adding something new!
Looking for an art curriculum – I have an Artistic Pursuits K-8 art curriculum giveaway in progress!

Thanks Nicole – and welcome to KINDERGARTEN! How much fun you are going to have this year!! Love the idea of the picture and date – so smart!!
Thanks for linking up today – and sharing your giveaway info too!

We take a similar picture every year. It’s neat to look back at them.
We also take a picture with them holding a sign with the date of their first day, school year and grade on it. I take one about waist up, and one full body. The last day of school I take another picture, it’s nice to see the growth in just one school year.
Fridays are for fun around here, unless we end up taking a day off earlier in the week.
We always take pics on the first day of school, too! Great memories!
Love this picture idea! I will have to do this when we start (down the road)!
This picture is too cute and I love the idea of the grade on the marker board. Thanks for the idea. 🙂
Ah, how sweet! Great memento to take a photo every year and a great way to “signify” the start of homeschooling!
Have lots of fun!

Last year, on our first day of kindergarten we went to Chuck-E-Cheese to celebrate Not Back To School Day!
This year, we started early and will do a Not Back To School Party on August 18th (when the public schools go back). We still haven’t decided what to do: bowling, glow in the dark golf, etc.
What a great picture! Have fun!
Great idea. I was wondering how I should commemorate my daughter’s first year of homeschooling. 🙂
