We were out on our patio 2 days ago and found a caterpillar, so I scooped him up and put him in our bug catcher with a stick wedged inside hoping it would turn into a crystalis, guess what, it did!
This all within 2 days! same caterpillar!
Then yesterday we found another caterpillar – same species! Look at him!
This morning it started thrashing back and forth and than it’s head fell off! What a blessing to get to watch!
Looking forward to watching the full cycle & releasing them! I have to go out & get a butterfly house!

That is cool!! My daughter’s preschool class does that sometimes. Can’t wait to see more pictures!
I’m debating about what sort of bug we want to order to watch change this year.
Super cool!
That is awesome. I can’t wait for spring to come so we can do stuff like this too.
I use to home school daughter and did many projects, so awesome.
wow – we’ve always wanted to do an in-house butterfly study!
Very cool!
How cool! I never can seem to find them at the right time, so we are going to order ours. We did this a couple of years ago and it was pretty fascinating, so my girls are asking to do it again.
oh we want to do this so badly, did you get the kit all together? how exciting!! i am looking forward to keeping my eye on this!!
Very cool!!
I love your photos. This is a very exciting experience for kids and I think it is wonderful how you have documented it.
I absolutely love sharing the joy of watching a caterpillar change to a butterfly. We were blessed too last fall with a Monarch. My link is below in case you’re interested! Happy watching!
