Pregnancy represents a wonderful thing in each mother’s life. Although the female body experiences drastic changes, the fact that the woman will have a baby is an irreplaceable feeling. Some may refer to this period as a peak of female life. Naturally, it goes together with childbirth itself. All of this is quite normal. One of the basic human needs is reproduction so all of this doesn’t come as a shock. It is something that most woman dreams of. Each and every one of us would like to hold our child for the first time. The first issues come after the pregnancy. There is no proper textbook that teaches us how to handle a baby. Every baby is different and we need to be very careful how we take care of it because even the slightest mistakes can influence its development and growth.
When the mother approaches birth date, the hormone oxytocin starts working constantly within the organism. This hormone is also called “love hormone” or “bonding hormone”. This is a perfect representation of the things which this hormone does for us. It makes us bond and fall in love. It is the precise reason why mothers are so caring and natural with their child. Release of this hormone into our bloodstream makes us love a person, or in this case, a baby. Other traits such as trust and loyalty start developing within us. Furthermore, women that have post pregnancy depression usually lack oxytocin in their organism, making them unable to connect to their child, creating a feeling of annxiety and melancholy. Like any other hormone in our body, we should regulate it properly. If a similar thing happens to you, contact your doctor or use oxytocin nasal spray or oxytocin sublingual drops in order to get your oxytocin level on normal level.
As previously mentioned, oxytocin regulates most of our bodily functions after the pregnancy including lactation. This is a natural response of the body which wants to provide a proper diet for a baby. Given that newborns don’t have teeth, the mother’s milk is the best and purest solution. It provides a child with a set of minerals and vitamins which are needed for growth. Through it, we give our child enough iron so that it can regulate the red blood cells in body. On the other hand, calcium and phosphorous are needed for good bone formation. There is no proper replacement for mother’s milk. If you have issues with lactation, get assistance from a lactation consultant or another mother. Go for artificial milk only as a last resort because the mother’s milk is the only substance which can help child to develop natural resistance to viruses and other microbes. Remember, mother needs to be well feed and full of minerals such as calcium in order to pass them to the baby.
Besides food, you and your baby should try and include healthy activities, such as walk, in your daily routine. Babies should get used to the atmosphere and all the microbes in the air. This is why we should take our child outside whenever you have a chance. Sun will provide the vitamin D to the baby while the mother will have a chance to get some exercise and regulate all the metabolic processes within the body.
How do you stay healthy during and after pregnancy?

I cut out sugar almost completely, and drank a ton of water. After my daughter was born, I tried to get as much sunshine as possible, but I had PPD, so everything was just REALLY HARD for about eight months. If I’m blessed to do it again, I’ll be taking a vitamin D supplement for several months following the birth.
I didn’t know there was a bonding hormone. Makes perfect sense though, we do have that absolutely instant bond the second we find out we’re expecting, and even more so at the moment little one is placed in our arms. 🙂
I practiced pre-natal yoga and was still active in the gym during pregnancy.
I definitely spent alot of time walking both before and after I had my kids. Great way to stay in shape and babies love being outside!
I cut out most caffeine, and tried to always be active. When the babies were born I breastfed to form a connection.
Breast feeding didn’t work out for me with either kid. It wasn’t an option. Formula is just fine and provides the baby with what they need.
I understand, I had breastfeeding issues with my 1st.
I learned from a lactation consultant that as our babies age and their requirements change, our breastmilk changes too. Formula doesn’t do that. Great information and I love that you are promoting breastfeeding.
Absolutely. Our breastmilk has hundreds of “ingredients” and adjusts to our babies needs.
Great info! I tried breastfeeding most of mine and sadly lasted 2weeks with most. Except #5 until 14.5 Mo’s when he stopped himself and am currently still breastfeeding #6 as we approach 20 months! It’s amazing and I try to eat more and stay hydrated during and after pregnancy.. Helps a ton!
This is really interesting. Going on walks with my babies was really fun for me. It’s good to know the Vitamin D was helpful for them!
I worked out and walked up to the day of my delivery of all my babies. It is so important to take care of yourself
That sounds like an awesome idea. I think being active and fit makes the whole process easier.
My healthiest pregnancy was the one where I stayed active until the day I gave birth. I ate mainly clean, whole foods as well.
It can be really overwhelming to take care of yourself when you are learning the ins and outs of caring for a newborn. It is so important though so that you can do a great job with baby!
I have never heard of this spray. Sounds pretty cool. We had to take our little ones outside a lot since they had jaundice and had to be in the sun 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
I drank a ton of water and walked. Still do both now 15 yrs later.
So much great information here. So much to know and take into consideration when you’re pregnant!
I cut out caffeine and went for walks every day.
Interesting Post. I’ve never had a baby but it sounds like “the peak of a woman’s life” as you said. Great Post
How interesting! I didn’t know there was an oxytocin spray on the market. This will hopefully help those suffering from postpartum depression.
I didn’t play by the rules… I did have coffee and soda every now and then. I had no idea this ocytocin spray existed!
