Pulling up to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge property I was in awe, not surprised though because Disney always blows me away. It was my first time on the property and excited to get to see the inside of the resort and all the amazing touches Disney is so great at offering. Beautifully inspired by African kraal which is a hut village in southern Africa, surrounded by a stockade. Once out of the car I was greeted with cast member’s which were helpful on showing me where to go to check in.
The lobby is massive and gorgeous! All with a luxurious touches from massive columns to a rope bridge from one side to the other. Giving it the rustic charm but with an elegant twists. The check in process was done quickly and the cast member was very helpful and was able to answer all the questions I had.
We enjoyed our walk to our room every time because there was so much to see. Especially the beautiful pieces of the one of a kind African art collections. As a homeschooler it was very educational to see and read about. I learned so many wonderful things!
Disney continued the African theme in each room. From the wallpaper to the shower curtain! The layout was nice and spacious with two queen beds. Perfect for my son and I which resulted in a nice comfortable stay. Our room was like being in Africa with ornate bedspreads, art work on the walls and beautifully carved furniture but with modern updates such as an LCD HDTV, a separate box to plug in your own devices (HDMI and composite connections for everything from a Blu-ray player to gaming units, marble bathroom vanity with TWO sinks with modern fixtures! The water pressure in the shower was two times better than it is at my home!
Then there is the Savannah view from the balcony. I have never slept so close to thirty exotic animal species until I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. My tween and I saw exotic birds, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest and other amazing species all from the comfort of our balcony!
Want to see the animals from different views? Disney knew you would because they have locations on each floor where you can go outside and observe on the observation decks so you can view the animals through binoculars day or night!
They say Disney puts Mickey Mouse throughout their parks and resorts. I found Mickey Mouse on the carpet in the hallways! It was fun to look at as we walked the hallways! They think of everything!
This family friendly resort has something for children of all ages especially for the tweens. Activities such as: roasting marshmallows in the open fire, 24-hour arcade, Simba’s Clubhouse offers arts and crafts and do not forget about the amazing pools! If you get hungry this resort has plenty to chose from whether it be a nice sit down meal or a quick snack! There are 9 different places to eat!
Want to get to the Disney attractions with no worries of parking a vehicle and fighting traffic? Animal Kingdom Lodge offers FREE Disney transportation to make life quick and easy!
Our stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge was amazing! It was like staying in the heart of Africa. Not only is it a beautiful property but there is so much to do for tweens which my son was thrilled about! What Disney resorts have you stayed at with your tween?

I looked into staying here when my kids were younger (toddlers), but didn’t feel they’d appreciate or remember it. We are planning a vacation to Disney and Universal this summer and you’ve got me thinking of staying here now that my kids are tween/teens.
I love Animal Kingdom and I have NEVER stayed on their property. I do want to tour it next time. Our problem is we want to stay on property where it is a hop, skip and jump to the parks.
Aimee, It is a hop, skip and jump to the parks! Literally takes only a few minutes to the parks plus they offer FREE Disney transportation.
