I am an eclectic homeschooler. Using curriculums from various places but also incorporating games, crafts and other fun activities into our learning. My 3 older children each have their own tablets as well as my husband and I. We load educational Apps on our children’s tablets so that not only can they play but learn at the same time. A game that we recently uploaded is Alphie.
Alphie the Squid is a 4.5 star rated App that is a unique ocean exploration game that follows the journey of wide-eyed and cute baby squid as he ventures into the depths of the ocean. Using the natural talents of the legendary giant squids, Alphie hunts, camouflages, and hypnotizes in order to fight sea creatures on a quest to become king of the ocean.
One of my favorite features is that before each round begins an educational fact about squid and other sea life. Kids can pick up quick little facts while playing.
Plus there is a gallery with several other sea creature facts for creatures discovered during the game. This gallery gives facts for example: The Giant Squid is the world’s largest invertebrate. An avid hunter with many tricks for catching prey, it grows from 1 cm to full size in five years. It’s eyes are basketball -size and it is known to eat small whales. It is one of the smartest and fastest animals on earth.
Not only does Alphie teach about our oceans but children will also learn by following directions and quick thinking. Keeping Alphie safe from other harmful sea creatures that will threaten is life. Add power to his life by collecting fish and other bonus features will restore how long Alphie lives. The whimsical graphics and brightly colors are eye-catching for any age – even mine and I am 40 years old!
As Alphie is successful he collects points and will move onto the next level – From the beginning and along the way throughout different parts of the ocean such as Shimmer Covers, Starfish Straits and ending at Atlantis Way and Misty Canyon.

This is such an adorable-looking app! I think it’s funny how great toys are just as appealing to adults as they are to kids. I am also an adult and find the graphics to be really visually appealing.
How fun! My son is getting into playing games on my old ipod and this sounds like its right up his alley.

Hmmmm…..We did the free download. .My daughter is in the 13th shell, with 3 levels in each one, and hasn’t had to pay anything yet.

I think my younger daughter would like this app especially since there are sharks in it. She is a shark fan lately. Cute graphics and it looks educational. I will check it out.
I actually think I’d enjoy playing with this one as much as the kids would. I have always been fascinated with ocean life!

Such a cute app! I love apps that are education as well as fun for kids. Wish it was something that was around when my child was younger. It is an app I will pass on to my friend’s with younger kids.
