My husband and I constantly stress to our children the importance of brushing and taking care of their teeth. They say your kids inherit your teeth, that your genes have a lot to do with how your children’s teeth will turn out. My husband has close to perfect teeth but as for me I have had cavities and root canals. This is no fun believe me, I do not want my children to experience that discomfort and pain. This is why we tell our children that they have to brush their teeth, floss and get their cleanings at the dentist office.
From an early age we have tried to make taking care of their teeth fun. Recently we purchased our two older boys electric toothbrushes that have timers built in them so they know when they are able to stop brushing. For our younger children I purchase them toothpaste with fun characters on the toothpaste tube which makes them excited to brush their teeth. The thing our children love the most is the toothbrush song which my husbands parents sang to him as a child:
