MATH / HOME ECONOMICS / READING / HANDWRITING ALL IN 1 LESSON (BAKING) LEARN & LINK

Do you have an educational post that is about your child and you would like to share? It can be a craft, a lesson, sport etc. that your child learned this week. You do not have to be a homeschooler to LINK up below – happy to have you join us! Then come back every Friday and continue to share your learn and link post! Please do not link up educational reviews – thanks!

On Monday I did something different with my 8 year old son for math, reading and handwriting. I gave him an recipe and he followed each step of the recipe.  I explained to him the different measurements, and then once he was done measuring, mashing and mixing I taught him how to use the mixer.

Homemade Banana Chocolate Banana Bread

Ingredients:
1 3/4 Cups of Flour
2/3 cups Sugar
2 TSP Baking Powder
1/2 TSP Baking Soda
1/4 TSP Salt
1 Cup of Mashed Banana’s (2 or 3 medium ripe banana’s)
1/3 Cup of Butter
2 TBSP Milk
2 Eggs
1 Cup of Chocolate Chips

Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl. He mashed the ripened banana’s with the back of a fork then added them to the milk, butter and eggs. Then combine all the ingredients in your mixer. You can either mix by hand on high speed for 2 minutes but we used our Kitchen Aid mixer and mixed till everything was well blended. Next pour ingredients into a greased 8 X 4 X 2 loaf pan and back on 350 for 55 to 60 minutes.

Then once the banana chocolate bread was done baking and he tried a piece I had him write about his experience and then draw a picture of this creation! This was a great homeschool day for us – math, reading, handwriting and home economics all in once lesson!

We will definitely be doing more lessons like this, he has been asking to do more cooking, maybe someday he will want to do all our cooking! Not only are these good lessons in our homeschool but perfect for life skills! I strongly encourage cooking with yours kids — it’s a lot of fun!
