DO YOU HOMESCHOOL ALL YEAR LONG, WHAT IS YOUR SUMMER LIKE?

I had originally planned on homeschooling all year long but I decided we needed a bit of a break! We will be homeschooling but LIGHTLY! Why? Two reasons, my son complains about homeschooling so if I completely take a break than I think he will be in shock when I were to start back up and the other reason is because I want him to work on the basics (handwriting and reading).

So here’s our summer:

~ LOTS of playdates with friends (pool, field trips, park, playdates at our homes, etc.)

~Lots of nature studies, my son is getting good at catching lizards and loves nature so why not explore and learn about it at the same time? Our homeschool group is doing a week this month & next month & just going to the nature centers. So I will have my son bring is journal and write and draw about what he learned.

We are using 2 great nature books: Florida Audobon and Nature Handbook.

~ For handwriting we are finishing up our Handwriting Without Tears book. We finished up the book but I am having my son go back and write all the words at the bottom of each page for practice and have them read them to me.

~ Reading, we belong to 2 reading programs (1 at our library and the other Barnes & Noble.). So most of my readers are from the library.

~ Bible – I am borrowing Character Traits coloring book & songs from a friend accompanied by other books and doing a complete character building lesson for the summer. Along with character building activities.

What is your summer like so far?
