My family has been very blessed and we stop and thank God for His abundant blessings. I couldn’t imagine my children ever going to bed without having a healthy meal, I am thankful this has never happened.
There are more than 16 million children under the age of eighteen in the United States are food insecure—unable to consistently access adequate amounts of nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. Even more heartbreaking is the fact that more than three million children under the age of five are food insecure.
While having enough food is important, the nutritional quality of that food is equally important. Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents ages 2 – 19 are obese, and 1 of 7 low-income, preschool-aged children is obese.
I never knew who astounding these numbers were until after reading them on Champions For Kids. There are ways we can help, pass your blessings onto others in need. First learn about the hunger needs of children in your community by inviting a teacher, social worker, food pantry employee, or homeless shelter volunteer to talk with your family, friends, and co-workers. Then gather your friends, family, and coworkers to provide nutritious snacks for children in need. Items like Pediasure, Pediasure SideKicks, and ZonePerfect bars would be great to share! Give the Abbott Nutrition Snack Packs to an organization in your community that serves children (like a school, religious organization, or nonprofit).
Our family will be heading to Walmart this week to put together our Abbott Nutrition Snack Pack Basket and then pass it to our church who offers a homeless ministry. These wonderful products will go to a family with children.
If you want to get involved with a SIMPLE service project, just go to Champions For Kids for more information. Also, join us for the Abbott/Champions for Kids Twitter party on January 19th at 9:00 pm EST, using the hashtag #AbbottCFK.
