INTERACTIVE MATH LEARNING SYSTEM (JUMPINGJOEY’S NUMBERLINE) REVIEW & GIVEAWAY–PERFECT FOR HOMESCHOOLING!!!

What is the JumpingJoey’s NumberLine? It’s a fun, interactive arithmetic learning system for children in grades Pre-K – Elementary. We had the opportunity to review JumpingJoey’s NumberLine FloorMat and PlaceMat. I incorporated them into our homeschooling as well as bringing the NumberLine FloorMat to a homeschool co-op for the other kids to use it.

How Does the NumberLine FloorMat work?
Students jump or walk the NumberLine as they add and subtract numbers to develop mathematical fluency. Parents, teachers, and students can create a multitude of problems to solve using the NumberLine on its own with its set of specially-created, multi-colored, multi-sided numerical and operations dice, or with existing curricula from school or elsewhere. The flexible NumberLine FloorMat comes in three 10-ft pieces that easily attach together via Velcro to fit in spaces of varying size. All products come with in-depth instructions that make learning easy to understand for parents, children, and educators.

Both my boys loved using the NumerLine FloorMat! My preschooler (3 1/2) especially enjoyed rolling the dice and thenjumping to the number he rolled OR without using the dice I would call out a number to him and then he would jump to the correct number. For my 5 year old (he will be 6 month),  he rolled the single digit dice, depending if it rolled on addition or subtraction he would jump to the answer. So if he rolled a 6-1, he would jump to 5.
Even our homeschool group loved The Jumping Joey’s
NumberLine FloorMat. I asked them what they liked the most
and they said rolling to the dice to form their own math problem.

The JumpingJoey’s PlaceMat is just like the FloorMat but can be played at the table!

How Does the NumberLine PlaceMat work?

Students use JumpingJoey figures to navigate the NumberLine as they add and subtract numbers. A multitude of problems are developed by rolling specially-created, multi-colored, multi-sided numerical and operations dice, which let parents, teachers, and students use the NumberLine on its own, or with existing curricula from school or elsewhere. The NumberLine is also very helpful for solving word problems, allowing for diverse learning opportunities. The PlaceMat is conveniently desk-sized, and includes numbers up to 24. All products come with in-depth instructions that make learning easy to understand for parents, children, and educators.

 The JumpingJoey Numberline PlaceMat Includes:
•One desk-sized PlaceMat, featuring numbers 0-24
•10 multi-colored, multi-sided numbered dice plus 1
addition/subtraction die
•3 JumpingJoey Figures
•Dice and figure case
•PlaceMat Carrying Case
•JumpingJoey’s Numberline Guidebook, with detailed instructions   for use, including single and multi-step word problem examples.

My Review:
As a homeschool mom I was very impressed wtihthis learning system. My 5 year old is a visual and hands on learner. Rolling the dice to form his own math problem then jumping on the FloorMat he enjoyed ALOT more than just working out of a workbook or worksheet. The PlaceMat is get to bring with for traveling, it keeps kids entertained but learning at the same time and yet they do not even realize they are learning! I like how there are several dice that come with each system so for younger children the math is more simplified and as they grow they can use the double digit dice so that the math problems are more on their learning level. Storage and clean up is a cinch, even my 5 year old was able to put it away!

It has been a great opportunity to get to work with the owner from JumpingJoey’s NumberLine – Matthew Mandlebaum. I was able to interview him for this review, here is a little bit about him and how JumpingJoey’s NumberLine got started:

1) Matthew Mandelbaum (inventor of JumpingJoey’s NumberLine), tell me a little bit about yourself.

I am a learning specialist living and working in New York City.  My wife, Jamie, is also a learning specialist.  We work together developing education products to help children’s grow to their full potential.  We also raise our beautiful, 2-year old daughter; so family is important to us.  We have a unique perspective for teaching and learning and developing products, which you can read about here.  We also have won an award for our work from the New York City government, which you can see here.

2) What inspired you to create JumpingJoey’s NumberLine?
The inspiration for JumpingJoey came from working with a kindergarten girl whose difficulties with math made it challenging for her to learn. I was inspired to help her thrive and develop a love of learning and a strong mathematical foundation. This began a journey that has have helped many and has been very rewarding.

3) Why is JumpingJoey’s NumberLine offered in a NumberLine Placemat and a Floormat? What are the benefits of each?
The Floormat and Placemat are only the first of the whole line of JumpingJoey’s NumberLine products.   The FloorMat allows students to experience numbers with their whole body and promotes a dynamic way of internalizing the number line approach.  The PlaceMat allows the student to make the transition from working on the floor to working at a desk and also offers a similar dynamic method of learning.  They are the same products in differing formats.  With the PlaceMat, hand motions are analogous to body movement.  Students have made smooth transitions from one to the other.  They both have been successful for helping students learn addition and subtraction with numbers up to 24.  Other products move to other operations and larger numbers.  The products work well together or on their own.

  3. What a great product! Oh how I wished I had these products when my youngest was learning numbers. He had SUCH A HARD TIME with subtraction. I’m not sure I could put words to it. We finally would just do math in the driveway with a hand made system like this. His physically moving back and forth with addition and subtraction finally helped. However, with chalk and cards it is hard to do every day. This would be a great product to be used daily – without all the creative juice from tired mom!

  13. I like the Jumping Joey system b/c it is a physical manipulative rather than mental. My son is going to really need this. He does things much better with physical visuals.

  14. If I won, I would chose the addition/subraction set: I think for my son, this would be most helpful immediately as he is four. The others may be needed later on.

  173. I chose the expanded addition/subtraction value pack as my favorite because it includes the floor mat, which I really love the idea of. I have a 4 year old and a 2 1/2 year old they need to be moving.

  177. I would LOVE to win the Pack for Grades 2- 4. I used to teach kindergarten and have tons of material for younger years, but not so much for past 5 and 6 years old. This would be great for my soon to be second grader!

  178. The
Expanded Addition Subtraction Value Pack would be great for my oldest boys. The younger one is starting pre-K, and the older one is starting 2nd grade. It actually would probably be too easy for him, but he could benefit from a little light work to get into the mood for the harder stuff, right?
