THE HOMESCHOOL VILLAGE – How does Dad participate in our homeschooling

This week at The Homeschool Village we chatting about Dads! How does Dad participate in your homeschool? Is he the principal? The encourager? The wallet? What makes your husband a fantastic homeschool dad? In what ways does he enrich the homeschool experience?
I recently have included my husband more into our homeschooling, prior to this year it was more homeschooling my oldest preschool but this year he started kindergarten. So I wanted my husband to get a glimpse of my world. We went to a local homeschool convention earlier this year where I had him help me choose cirrculum, asked for his input, etc. Weekly I show him JJ’s portfolio so he can see what we are working on. I also have our son sit down with his father and have him read to his father, etc. so my husband can see the progress our son is making.
My husband being the provider for our family is definitely the “wallet”, he provides the means for curriculums, etc. But I am VERY blessed to have friends give me hand me down curriculums too, I gladly take them! Just recently I struggled with teaching my son the short & long vowel sounds in our reading so I went to my husband who gave me great advice. I am so blessed to be able to toss things off him for advice, I love his thinking, he thinks outside of the box which I so don’t!
Here is a picture of my husband just a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning going over the short & long vowels sounds while I took our 2 little one’s for their check ups. I didn’t ask him to do this but he gladly sat down in front of our homeschool dry erase board and did “lesson”. Praise God for such an awesome and supportive husband!

  1. So good to meet you through the blog hops.

I’m a teacher and I love working with both parents, and so many families have different roles for moms and for dads. What’s important is knowing that all of the members of the family and making contributions, in whichever ways they can and do.

Good luck with long and short vowels!
