Baby Hand Print Leaf Craft For Little Ones

Monday mornings can be quite long.  Another mom and I watch 6 babies (including my own baby) in our homeschool group in the nursery while the older kids are in their homeschool classes.  We read books to the babies, blow bubbles and play with toys but after our 5th week I decided to introduce a craft to them.  I must say it was quite interesting because all of these babies are under the age of two and most of them have never experienced paint on their hands. Their faces were priceless. Since it’s now Fall I decided we would make hand print leaves.

Washable yellow and orange paint

Brown construction paper

Paint brush

Pencil

Paper plate

First on a plastic disposable dish I mixed a bit of yellow and orange paint together so that you could see the streaks of both paints giving the paint a bit of a splotchy look.  Then I painted the little one’s hand.  Trying my hardest to get their fingers spread apart and then gently and yet firmly pressing their hand down on the brown construction paper.  I allowed the hand print to completely dry. Once the hand print was dry I used a pencil and free handed the stem of the leaf and the veins of the leaf.

It was a simple and yet cute little craft to do with the babies. It took longer to clean up than it did to do the craft!  I hung my baby’s leaf hand print up in our homeschool room. It makes a cute keepsake for the moms to keep and/or display for the Fall season!

Have you done crafts with your little ones before, if so what type of crafts did you make?  I am looking for future suggestions to do with the babies!
