Camping At Disney’s Fort Wilderness

One of my family’s favorite things to do is to go camping. Ever since we went a year ago we have been hooked! We recently decided to camp in a new location; Disney’s Fort Wilderness! I loved our stay SO mucht that I actually felt sad and wanted to cry when it was time to pack up our camping gear! So why did we love it so much?

First of all Ft. Wilderness is one of the most kid friendly camp sites we have stayed at. You basically do not even need to leave the camp grounds for entertainment because there is plenty to do to keep the whole family busy!

There are 2 pools located on the camp site. The Meadow’s Swimmin’ Pool has a corkscrew water slide, a small kiddie pool which is perfect for littler ones. My daughter is 2 the water went up to her knees. The little ones have their own water slides in the fort themed water play area. Also periodically throughout the day they have poolside activities for kids and opportunities for them to win prizes!

Each camp site has loops that are perfect for kids to ride bikes and scooters. These one way streets have a one way traffic as well as little traffic so no worries about kids playing. Plus there are playgrounds and other outside amenities for kids to play on. Our loop at a tether-ball court which my kids loved to play at.

We rented the golf cart for a few days which was one of the best investments because the camp grounds are so huge. One of the places we enjoyed was near Pioneer Hall. There is the shopping, an arcade, the Hoop-Dee-Doo musical revue, restaurants and horse stables.  Pony rides and wagon rides are offered too!

There is still more to do at night time too! Campfire activities feature Chip N’ Dale signing jamboree, roasting marshmallows (I recommend bringing your own chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers if you are making s’mores. They sell them but it can be pricey) and a Disney movie under the stars. Chip N’ Dale also visits the kids for photo ops and has the kids moving to their feet with singing and dancing.

As a homeschooler I was thrilled how much my kids learned during our stay too. We saw wildlife in their natural habitat. From deer, rabbits and woodpeckers. It was a great time to sit and watch and explore.

Plus everything is at your fingertips. Each loop has a men’s and women’s bathroom facility which includes showers. Depending on which camp site you choose they include running water and electricity. If you wanted to head to one of the Disney parks outside of the camp grounds they offer buses so there is no need to worry about having a car or other transportation. All super convenient with kids right?!

We loved our stay so much that we are making it our new tradition to camp at Ft. Wilderness every year! Have you ever stayed at Disney’s Ft. Wilderness before? If so did you tent, stay in a RV or in a log cabin?

  26. We stayed at Fort Wilderness for our families first trip to Disney in 2002 and stayed in our tent. It was so clean and so much to do. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We visited a couple more times and stayed at a different resort, which was great too. Then, during spring break 2016, we stayed at Fort Wilderness in our camper, with our large family and had the time of our life.We will definitely be back soon. With the prices and amazing fun, it is a chance to have memories multiple times.
