Traveling With Kids To Family Friendly Destinations #VRMonth

My family loves to take road trips.  We have been traveling quite a bit this last year. Our biggest trip was from Florida to Upstate New York and back again. It was one of the best trips ever, as we made several stops along the way. Surprisingly the kids did a wonderful job through the long car ride. Another one my family’s favorite travel destination is the beach. There is so much to do; building sandcastles, swimming in ocean, collecting shells, fishing, the fun is endless!

I think getting away from everyday routine is a necessity. It a perfect time to not be tied to a schedule and recharge while making new memories with family.  So when I plan a vacation with my family I have certain criteria that I look for when it comes to lodging if it suit my kids needs as well as my husbands and mine also.

We prefer to travel by car due to the expense and in my opinion it is more child friendly. Our schedule is more flexible because we can stop along the way and visit attractions, parks, etc. that we would not be able to do by plane. The kids stay busy watching movies on their tablets, reading books and coloring in the car.

Eating out is nice but sometimes kids get antsy plus it can get expensive. So I look for lodging with accommodations for eating in. Such as a fully equipped kitchen that way we can cook many of our own meals which definitely helps keeping food costs down.

Making sure that our lodging has amenities for my family such as a pool, water slides and other kid friendly activities.

Lodging that has enough room to accommodate my family. With separate bedrooms to allow my children to stick to bedtime routines.

Washers and dryers in our room are a necessity for this mom because you never know when accidents will happen!

Staying at a rental such as Wyndham Vacation Rentals which offers an expansive inventory of vacation rental homes, vacation condo rentals, townhomes and hotels located in North America’s most popular beach, ski and theme park destinations as well as in some of the world’s most popular international destinations.

  1. I love washers and dryers being in the room. Saves so much time for when you get back home AND you can pack less–if that’ possible.

  2. What a great giveaway! And I agree that it’s usually easier to travel by car with kids. Washers and dryers in the room are a total luxury!

  3. Robin Masshole mommy says:

We love to road trip, too. We have a big one coming up next week actually

  4. We definitely go places that are for kids. We all love the beach though!

  5. We’ve only done road trips so far with the kids, no planes yet. I love the option of having a full kitchen so you don’t have to eat out…which is too much work.

  6. We also love road trips with our kids. We will have to check out Wyndham hotels next time we go on a family trip. Thanks for the tip

  7. This definitely looks like a family friendly destination. I won’t travel to certain places if they are not family friendly because families with kids have special needs that should be met while on vacation.

  8. We have two little ones who we always travel by car with. Your tips will come in handy for our next vacation!

  9. Michelle Hwee says:

I have never really done a long road trip before, just one where we went to 3 neighboring states, I’m in NYC. They’re so much fun!

  10. Annemarie LeBlanc says:

This is a great way to cut down on costs while vacationing. I love the idea of having a kitchen because sometimes, finding a restaurant or getting a reservation becomes too much of a hassle. Thanks for sharing!

  11. These are great tips. I like staying at vacation rentals for all the reasons you mentioned. Having a kitchen allows you to cook and save money.

  12. These are awesome tips. Haviing a washer and dryer in the room sounds like a great idea.

  13. Elizabeth O. says:

  14. That splash pad looks awesome. I would stay here, I like the charm of the building.

  15. Looking into this resort!
We are headed to Florida in January and want to extend our trip so we need to find other accommodation 🙂

  16. Jennifer Williams says:

We love the Wyndham hotels. They are always so clean and have things to do on the days you really just want to relax and recharge. Best part is many of them allow pets – we always travel with ours!

    • Jennifer, These are a bit different. They are vacation rentals which are bigger than hotels and offer many more amenities that a hotel may not offer.

  17. I agree that traveling by car with children is probably the best option. Looks like you had a great stay, I love the beach!

  18. We’re heading to upstate NY soon. We’re flying (first time flying with our 3-year-old!) and I’m a little nervous. I know once we get there, it’ll be fine!

  19. We’re totally beach roadtrip fans! Our next trip is to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and then Cape Cod after that!

  20. We just got back from a 2 day stint at a hotel at the beach and had a wonderful time! We balanced our mini-vacation with some scheduled fun and also so “free” time. It really helps keep the kids happy and not overtired!

  21. RoseMarie says:

The amenities are important. I’d add free breakfast to the list too. That saves a fortune when you have kids. 🙂

  22. I love the fully equipped kitchen idea, it is a great way to save money for another fun activities. Thanks for the awesome tips! 😀

  23. Excellent post! I completely agree on your point of “I think getting away from everyday routine is a necessity.”

Being at home everyday, we do get stuck in a routine, and a vacation allows you to do something different everyday. It also allows you a break from your daily house chores, traffic, cooking, and such.

  24. I didn’t know they had vacation rentals like this. Good to know.

  25. I would love to go on a vacation like this and that rental looks fantastic. We do well with the kids traveling in a car you can take mini breaks when needed. I love the idea of the washer and dryer in the room because of those swim suits and towels are a pain in the but if left in a bag sometimes we forget about them and find them after it’s to late eww so a washer and dryer would be a huge plus for us with the kids.

  26. Wow, this is awesome. I had no idea about any of this but it looks great. That beach looks like a vacation I could use right about now!

  27. Traveling with kids is quite the task, there are so many things to think about – rather than a trip with just me! Love beach and a (short) road trip vacation!

  28. Thanks so much for the awesome information. Traveling with kids is not always the best or easiest but so much worth it. The memories that can be made. Again thanks for the information

  29. We prefer to travel by car as much as possible too. It seems to be less stressful on the family.

  30. I think traveling by car is more fun and more flexible like you said. You can stop when needed, and travel at your own pace.

  31. Having a fully equipped kitchen is a MUST when traveling for many days. Eating out gets so expensive, plus who wants to get ready and go out for every meal?! Not me!

  32. We just came back from an awesome stay not far from us and we had a washer and dryer in our suite and it was so convenient especially with kids. Thanks for your post.

  33. We love to travel by car and plan a cross country trip for 2016 – thanks for the tips

  34. Great tips. The Wyndham looks like a great little rental resort. Going to have to put this on my list of places to check out

  35. It always helps to have a washer and dryer at the hotel. The amenities all sound great. Important part is that the kids had a great time!

  36. That looks like so much fun. I’d spend some serious time at that splash pad.

  37. These are such great tips for vacationing with kids. We usually drive as well and always find a place that offers a washer and dryer. Otherwise there is just no way to take everything the kids need for a full vacation.

  38. Every year, we are doing road trip. Near or far, it is always fun for all of us.

  39. We travel by car usually too since flying has become so expensive. I am not sure where our next trip will be.

  40. I love road tripping with the kids. I just have to make sure there’s a ton of entertainment and snacks on hand, and we’re golden.

  41. We LOVE family road trips! And are always on the look out for kid friendly rentals that include all the comforts of home. This seems like the perfect place! My family would LOVE it!

  42. Having a washer and dyer would be such an awesome addition to any hotel room. There have been too many times where I have had to use the sink because someone didn’t bring enough clothes for the trip!

  43. We are expecting our first child and buying a new home this summer, so we won’t be vacationing this year. But I can’t wait for next year to go get away for a few days! I love staying in nice hotels!

  44. Ann Bacciaglia says:

These are great tips for travelling with kids. I always pack tons of snacks and drinks. Licence plate games can make a long drive go by faster.

  45. I love the idea of staying somewhere more like home. Having a place to cook could really save some money!

  46. We travel with kids quite frequently and have always been happy with Wyndham hotels. They offer a lot of nice amenities!

  47. A vacation rental home is the only way to go when you have kids. There’s so many amenities! Not that you want to do laundry on vacation but you know…;)

  48. Wyndham rentals are great. A kitchen is a must when traveling with kids. You can keep down your daily expenses just by making breakfast in your room.

  49. Oooo! I wish we had a washer and dryer in our rooms. It would’ve been less of an headache and not have to find a laundromat to wash clothes

  50. Rachelle J says:

I SO agree with the full kitchen in a hotel! On vacation we usually eat breakfast and lunch in the room and dinner out. It saves us so much money! I also think that road trips are way for fun than plane rides!

  51. Great tips for traveling with kids. I never really got to do much traveling with my daughter when she was young, but I wish we would have had the means. We love to take road trips now, though and she usually likes it, but is getting to that age where it feels like I am dragging her along.

  52. Debbie Denny says:

Very good tips. Love having a kitchen to make things easier and less expensive.

  53. You are so making me want to play a vacay stat!

  54. This would definitely be a more relaxing vacation experience than a hotel. I could really settle in with a rental home.

  55. Yes, we need to break our usual routine by traveling. I think vacation rental homes would end up cheaper and better way to travel.

  56. I don’t have kids so I don’t travel with them but these all seem like really great tips/ideas!! Great post!!

  57. I like traveling by car, too! Florida to New York and back is a very, very long trip. Glad you all made it!

  58. I think traveling by car with children is the best way! This way it gives the whole family a bit of flexibility! What great tips your shared today! After all, going on holidays with family is supposed to be about quality time and that the experiences are stress free!

  59. Thank you for this post! We going on a road trip in 2 weeks and I’m not sure how I’m going to do it with a toddler and being pregnant.

  60. Rebecca Swenor says:

It looks like you all had an awesome time on your vacation. I think it is an awesome idea to rent a vacation home because in the end it can be so much cheaper. The Wyndham Vacation Rentals would be a great way to go for sure. Thanks for sharing.

  61. These are some great tips. I usually dont travel far with my boys since they are so young.

  62. We don’t travel very far due to the kids being car sick but these are great tips! We’ll try again next year possibly

  63. I love vacation rentals when traveling with kids because there’s just more room to sprawl out. Plus having a kitchen is a major plus!

  64. I have never been to the beach with my children, but it would be a wonderful family vacation experience. Maybe someday!

  65. Road trippings are always fun and its fun with kids but tricky – still.. managing it well is the key.

  66. We travel only by car also, with 5 kids, I shudder to think about the cost of flying. You are absolutely right about the flexibility offered by driving also, we’ve changed on the fly a number of times when we see something cool.

  67. This looks like such an amazingly beautiful place. It seems like w wonderful rewards after a few hours on the road.
