I recently shared how much my family enjoys going to our local zoo; Palm Beach Zoo. There is so much to do and see. From watching the animals in their exhibits, shows and weekly events. Plus they offer animal experiences up close.
My family had an amazing time with the Aldabra Tortoise’s at the Aldabra Tortoise Experience. We joined 3 Aldabra Tortoises in their exhibit! This experience offered us the opportunity to get up close with one of the world’s largest tortoises. My kids were given bamboo sticks with sweet potato slices on the end to feed the tortoises their breakfast. They took turns feeding and petting them.
The zoo keeper told the kids amazing facts such as what their diets consisted of, the differences between tortoises and turtles to their life span. Plus she went over very important conservation messages about these gentle creatures. Things such as throwing garbage away properly so they do not mistake it for food or cutting up plastic into small pieces so that tortoises do not it tangled up into it which could cause health issues or even death. This was a perfect homeschool hands on lesson.
After the feeding and petting the kids had the experience of giving the Aldabra Tortoise’s a bath! The tortoises loved the water sprayed over them. I am not sure who enjoyed it more the tortoises or the kids!
My family had the best time. Definitely a time we will never forget. The Aldabra Tortoise Experience is geared for adults and children ages 5+. This amazing experience is only $15 (per person) for members and $20 (per person) for non-members. Prices do not include zoo admission.
The Palm Beach Zoo offers other animal experiences as well such as the Giant Anteater Experience, Koala Experience, Black Bear Experience, Sloth Experience and the Capybara Experience.
Standard admission for adults is $18.95, $16.95 for seniors and $12.95 for children ages 3 to 12. I highly recommend purchasing the annual zoo pass, it definitely pays for itself! Annual membership prices are: individual seniors $75.00 which is for one senior (ages 60+) and one guest per visit, individual plus $85.00 which is for one adult and one guest per visit and they even have one for families which is for a family or grandparent for $145 which includes two adults and all dependent children in the household under the age of 18. This membership can also be purchased for grandparents (children need not live in the same household).

What a fun experience. We love zoos and any animal related fun.
We are actually going to be in the Palm Beach area in 2016. Our Grandkids will be visiting us while we are there. How fun to surprise them with a trip to the zoo.

That’s a large Tortoise. Don’t they live for like 100 years? My son has a miniature turtle and loves taking care of him.

We have an aquatic turtle right now. They are of course different than a tortoise but if it were possible for us to have an Aldabra, I’d be all over that! My absolute favorite! Such gentle giants!
