When my family goes to Disney World we try to gear our trip around all of our kids.  That means rides and attractions.  But my son will be a tween in less than a few weeks so on our last trip to Disney we did more attractions geared to him.  So what does Disney offer the tween?  A LOT!  Most tweens like fast, loud, exciting and thrilling rides right? My son does!  My son is a lot like me, he loves roller coasters.

Space Mountain has been around since I was a child. I loved this ride so much and I remember riding on it with my parents and now my son and I are creating memories riding it together as we blast off on a rip-roaring rocket through the darkest reaches of outer space!

Then there is the Himalayan mountains where you can travel on a speeding train while avoiding the clutches of the mythic Abominable Snowman / Yeti with the Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.  Although my son loves this roller coaster, the suspense of the Abominable Snowman leaves him hiding in his seat!

Spoiler alert — There is no warning when the train comes to a screeching halt, the broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Not knowing what will happen next, brace yourself as your train unpredictably begins to race backward into the darkened mountain, furiously swooping up into a double-looping turn. Inside the windswept passage, a shadowy figure of a growling creature can be seen on a cavern wall. It is the Yetiโ€”the legend is real which totally freaks my tween out but he loves it!

We got to experience for the first time the newest roller coaster- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train which is great for any age. Make your merry way across the rolling stone bridges and through a forest where youโ€™ll find the Dwarfsโ€™ cottage and all the stars from the film: Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey and, of course, Snow White herself.

Can you find my son and I on this video? We are wearing red.

Lastly my tween’s favorite roller coaster is the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (starring Aerosmith) .  We got our backstage pass and headed to the “concert” as we blasted off in a super-stretch limousine through the darkened freeways of Los Angeles.  It was dark, it was loud it was amazing! So amazing that my son and I got on the ride consecutively four times in a row!

Priceless! Love our expressions!

There are so many wonderful roller coasters to chose from, I just stretched the surface!  What are your kids favorite Disney roller coasters?

  1. I knew Disney had a few small coasters, but I didn’t realize that they had a few larger ones, too! That’s pretty cool.

  2. You will never catch me on a roller coaster–NEVER. Call me chicken or whatever other name you can think of–it will not work–If I ever go to Disney I think I will be very happy strolling around my two feet firmly on the ground eating up a storm and taking in the sites.

  3. Hi Nicole – Love that photo with your ‘son is fearless’! Actually, his head is missing!! lol
We are planning on our Anaheim Disneyland in June – but sadly, I don’t believe that have all of these you’ve shared – I always loved Space Mountain – and so enjoyed the video of the Dwarf’s ride plus the song! Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. What a great recap. We were just at Disney in March and are heading there agan in June for a longer stay. I only ride the Dwarf Train and the Thunder Mountain railroad, I’m not big on coasters, but my daughter and hubby ride them all!

  28. Love, love, love roller coasters! I hope my kids like them too when they get older. Otherwise, I’ll be going on them alone haha.

  29. Jennifer Williams says:

  32. I grew up in Florida so Disney holds such fond memories for me. It’s nice to see families enjoying the thrill of roller coasters!!

  33. Those all look like so much fun! My son is not one for the big rides, so we tend to stick to the smaller ones.

    • Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

Yeah, I like the smaller ones too! The big ones really turn my stomach anymore! I just can’t hack them like I used too!

  34. I’ve always been a huge fan of roller coasters every since I was a little girl. This looks like it has all the thrill rides for roller coaster enthusiasts.

  35. Okay I have to sit on the sidelines for this one as a migraine sufferer but it looks like fun!

  42. Those are amazing roller coasters. My teen will be thrilled to try them all

  43. Space Mountain is my all-time favorite, and I think it’s because it’s so dark, you can’t see any of the track. Everything is a surprise even if you’ve been on it before. I’ll have to check these other ones out.
