Teaching children about money can be a difficult task.  I think it’s very important at a young age to teach children the value of a dollar. A great resource for kids to save money is with the Designer Piggy Bank by Wikki Stix.

This is not just your typical piggy bank!  The Wikki Stix ceramic piggy bank is a design it your way!  Using Wikki Stix which made of hand-knitting yarn enhanced with a microcrystalline food-grade, non-toxic wax kids can adhere to the piggy bank with just a light fingertip pressure.  The Wikki Stix can easily be applied and re-applied if children would like to change their creation.  Children can be creative and make any designs they want. This is a fun way for children to express themselves while saving money!

money teaching tips for kids use

1)  Introduce young children to coins first.  From there go over the value of coins and encourage them to save their coins in a piggy bank such as the Wikki Stix Piggy Bank.

2)  Give children an allowance.  By early elementary age children are able to do more chores to help around the house. Whether or not you tie chores to an allowance, it’s a good idea to get your grade-schooler into the habit of managing his own money. Plus if they earn it it can give children a sense of accomplishment.

3)  Explain to children when writing a check, using an ATM card or credit card and/or paying by cash.  Kids are very observant and will learn many of their money concepts by watching you and copying your behavior.

4)  Teach generosity.  I tell my kids all the time that it is better to give than to receive.  My kids give continually to organizations that are kid related such as the Awana program.  Kids can relate to other children so if their is a need I notice how excited my children are to help out other children who are less fortunate.

5)   Allow children to waste their money and make mistakes with their money. As a mom this is such a hard thing for me to do but it’s a valuable teaching tool. Be ready to step in and help guide them when they need it.

The Wikki Stix Piggy Bank is a nice big sturdy piggy bank  which gives children a nice bit area to create! Each pig comes with 72 colorful Wikki Stix.  My daughter decorated her piggy bank totally girly. With Wikki Stix earrings, shoes, a headband and a tutu!
